EN 54 – New Intelligent Solutions for Highest Safety Standards

The application of PA systems solely as intercom systems or for background music is part of today's building technology. They are also often a component of a security concept and thus complement a fire alarm system. Electro-acoustic emergency warning systems reproduce siren-like signals and can help to clearly accelerate the evacuation process by making specific announcements to people in danger zones.

The requirements on such electro-acoustic warning systems are specified in the European standard EN 60849. This system standard includes general standards which ready fitted systems must comply with. The included standards state the minimum requirements made on the applied products. In Germany, for example, electro-acoustic warning systems are compulsory for various areas: shops, places of public assembly and sports facilities exceeding a certain size or number of people, hospitals, accommodation centres, public schools and vocational training schools.

The EN 54

The standard VDE 0833 part 4 was implemented to accommodate an ever increasing combination of fire alarm systems and voice alarm systems. Additional tests and inspections were made compulsory in order to meet the high security requirements of a fire alarm system.

The Complete Package

In order to comply with the high requirements, MONACOR INTERNATIONAL now offers a complex system around the audio management controller EVA-16MEN. This ensures that the system complies with the regulations, because voice alarm systems must solely be equipped with EN 54-certified components. These include the management system itself, the power amplifiers and the emergency PSUs as well as the rack which accommodates these components.

With the use of master and slave units, it is possible to cascade up to 10 systems. Thus, more complex applications can be realised. The 4 audio inputs which can be routed to the 4 audio outputs as desired provide great flexibility for the user.

The certified SINUS power amplifier series with power capabilities of 120 W and 240 W provides sufficient power reserves.

Extensive accessories, e.g. 80-channel desktop microphone station, fireman's microphone stations or relay units complete this product range which also includes further speaker systems with EN 54-24 certification.

In order to fully implement the requirements of your future applications, we will offer two different ways of delivery:

•    As usual, all components required for the system are available as individual items for self-assembly. The certification will be done at your premises after completion of installation.

•    Alternatively, we will deliver a 19" case made to your individual specifications and already fitted with the required system components which comply with EN 54-16. In this case, you specify the respective requirements and products and we will provide you with a complete offer for a voice alarm system including installation into a rack.
